The Office Bearers and other members of the Managing Committee of the Society are elected by the General Body at its' Annual General Meeting held in September every year. The Managing Committee consistes of 15 elected members including office bearers, who can co-opt upto three members under the Bye Laws of the Society.

The Managing Committee holds regular meetings once every month and co-ordinates the work of other Sub-Committees setup by it to look after various activities of SPA.

Managing committee for the year 2003-04 comprises of the following :

Mr. S. Iradat Husain - President
Mr. S. Iradat Husain is a very well-known person in the field of finance. He has held a number of key positions in financial institutions within Pakistan like the Muslim Commercial Bank, United Bank Limited, and Grindlays Bank Limited as well as outside the country he has headed institutions like the Bank of Oman, Dubai (now known as Mashriq Bank); Mid Eastern Bank Limited. He is the founder member of the Modarba Association of Pakistan and also the Chairman of the Almal Corporation Limited, Modarba Management Company since 1980 to date.

Mr. S. Iradat Husain was unanimously elected as the President of the Society for the Promotion of Arabic 1n 2003. He also heads a number of organizations and a member of social and welfare institutions.
Mr. M.M. Malik – Vice President
Mr. M. Malik has done his post graduation in Law. He is a very senior and respected person in the field of banking and finance. Mr. Malik has headed the Institute of Bankers, a leading professional body of bankers, as its Chief Executive for over four decades and has taken the institution to the point of excellence.

At present Mr. Malik is associated with the Pakistan Industrial Credit & Investment Corporation Ltd. (PICIC) as Chief of its Management Institute. He has attended a number of courses and conferences within Pakistan as well as abroad.

He has been a member of the Society for the Promotion of Arabic and its Managing Committee member for a number of years. He became the Vice President of the Society in 2003.
Mr. Parvez Ahmed - Secretary
Hafiz Parvez Ahmed is an honours graduate from the University of Calcutta, India, and belongs to one of the famous muslim families of the sub continent with an illustrious background of education and a business offices ranging between Kobe, Burma, Dhaka up to Peshawar. His peers built the Jamia Mosque in Kobe, Japan and also established a highly reputed Secondary School in Calcutta besides a large Islamic Books Publishing House in Delhi, India.

Hafiz Parvez Ahmed is associated with the Society since 1973 as a student of Arabic and became its member in 1976. He became the Executive Secretary of the Society in 1997, and was elected as a Secretary of the Society in 2003 in view of his long association with the institution. He was one of the founder members of the Arabic Language Club and remained its Vice President for a number of years.

At present he is also the Administrator of three educational institutions having over three thousand students under the banner of Hamdard University, namely Hamdard Public School, Hamdard College of Science and Commerce and Hamdard Village School.
Mr. S. M. Ehtishamullah - Treasurer
Syed Mahmood Ehtishamullah has been the Treasurer of the Society for the Promotion of Arabic. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and is working as the Finance Director in Crescent Steels and Allied Products Limited one of the large industrial groups of Pakistan.

Mr. S. M. Ehtishamullah has contributed substantially to the progress of the Society for the Promotion of Arabic and looking after the finances of the Society in a very sagacious and experienced manner. He is also responsible for the framing of the Annual Budget and for getting the yearly accounts of the Society audited by a Chartered Accountants firm, Messrs. Taseer, Hadi Khalid and Company.
Mr. Zafar Iqbal
Mr. Zafar Iqbal holds Bachelors degrees in Science and Arts, as well as is associated with F.A.B.I. (Fellow American Biographical Institute Inc. North Carolina, USA. He is a very well known industrialist/businessman of Pakistan. He is the Managing Director of Messrs. SAI Company (Pvt.) Ltd.

Mr. Zafar Iqbal is very widely traveled person. He is also known for his wide circle of social, charitable and welfare activities. He has been the President of the Defence Residents Society for the past many years and has provided yeoman’s services for the uplift and betterment of the largest residential complex of Pakistan.

Mr. Zafar Iqbal was the President of the Society for the Promotion of Arabic for seven years (from 1984 to 1991), which is the longest tenure of a president in the history of the Society. During these years the activities of the Society widened greatly. During his tenure a National Arabic Language Conference in 1985 and the First International Arabic Language Conference was held in 1988 which was attended by delegates from over 23 countries..
Mr. Masrur Ahmad
Mr. Masrur Ahmed was born in Delhi with lineage in Delhi’s learned Urdu literary family, which made rich contribution to the development of Urdu prose and fiction and rendered great services for the uplift of Islamic values in the sub-continent. He is the great grandson of Shamsul-ul-ulema Maulvi Nazir Ahmed – the translator of the Holy Quran in Urdu. He was an established author, poet and Arabic orator.

Mr. Masrur Ahmed after receiving his engineering degree won the Burmah Shell scholarship for postgraduate studies in engineering in England. He worked in his specialized field for oil and gas exploration for over three decades and retired in 1990 as the Chief Executive/Managing Director of Pakistan Petroleum Ltd.

He has been associated with the Society for the Promotion of Arabic since 1986, and served as President of the Society from 1991 to 1996. He also devotes time to charitable work.
Mr. M. Bashir A. Jhumra
Mr. M. Bashir Ahmad Jhumra is a well-known figure in the cultural, social, business and industrial fields of the country. He has also been a Director in a leading Group of newspapers in Pakistan; Nawa-e-Waqt Group of Papers. Mr. Bashir A. Jhumra has studied law and qualified as a Barrister-in-law from the Lincoln’s Inn, London in 1957. Mr. Jhumra returned to Pakistan and joined the business field. He was responsible for the establishment of several industries in Pakistan.

Mr. Jhumra was elected as the President of the Society for the Promotion of Pakistan in 1996, which office he held for five years. He is responsible for the expansion of the academic activities of the Society both within its premises as well as at outside centres.
Mr. Mahmudul Aziz
Mr. Mahmudul Aziz has been engaged in the promotion of journalism in Pakistan since 1949. He is the Managing Editor of the United Press of Pakistan, the oldest private sector news agency, and the monthly English magazine “Pictorial News Review” which is published since 1970 and has been patronized by the Saudi Ministry of Information.

He has traveled extensively in the Saudi Kingdom and has worked for the closer ties between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

Mr. Mahmudul Aziz held the post of the Vice President of the Society for the Promotion of Arabic for several years. In 2001 he was elected as the President of the Society.
Mr. Islam Uddin Agha
Mr. Islam Uddin Agha has been actively associated with the Society since 1986 and is the past Hon Secretary of the Society. He was earlier elected as the Treasurer.

Mr. Islam Uddin Agha is devoted to the promotion of Arabic. He is the Chairman of the Arabic Language Club Sub-Committee since the past several years and has played a key role in the flourishing and expansion of its activities.

Mr. Islam Uddin Agha engaged in the field of Textile Production. He has visited Saudi Arabia several times and is widely traveled. He has worked with “Bachtel Int.” as a costing engineer for their “King Khalid Int. Airport” project, Riyadh and with the help of other Saudi and Pakistani Nationals established the Saudi Pakistani Cultural Group of which Prince Turki was the Chairman.

At present, Mr. Agha is the Vice President of Rotary Club Karachi Bay, Finance Secretary of Small & Medium Enterprise Association of Pakistan and a member of a number of social and welfare organizations.
Mr. S. M. Waseem
Syed Mohammad Waseem after graduation joined Habib Bank Limited in 1960. He is an experienced Banker and has held a number of important positions in Habib Bank as well as several other social, charitable, educational, cultural and welfare organizations.

Mr. S. M. Waseem has been a member of the Society’s Managing Committee, where he has been the Chairman of the Publicity and Public Relations Sub-Committee since the past several years.

Mr. G.R. Arshad
Mr. G. R. Arshad is one of the leading industrialists of Pakistan. His field is Textiles, in which he has excelled.

Mr. G. R. Arshad is a widely traveled person and has all along been associated with a number of industrial and commercial concerns, besides being the President of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He has also been a Managing Committee member of the Society and contributed to its progress substantially.

Mrs. Suraiya Qarni
Mrs. Suraiya Qarni is a very well known social worker in Karachi. She is a member of a number of social, charitable and welfare organizations. At present, she is the President of the Society for the Rehabilitation of Special Children which office she has held since 1983.
Mr. Yusuf Ali
Mr. Yusuf Ali is a graduate from Lucknow University. He joined the Army in 1950 and retired voluntarily as a Major in 1963. He has served as the General Manager Administration, Pakistan Automobile Corporation Limited and as Senior Executive Vice President in National Development Finance Corporation. He has attended a number of educational and specialized courses within the country and abroad also. Mr. Yusuf Ali has been a President of the Rotary Club and is also a permanent member of the Sind Club.
Mr. Rashid M. Chandna
Mr. Rashid M. Chandna belongs to a literary family with a strong educational background. He is the son of a famous Urdu poet. He acquired technical education in computer field and is presently is the proprietor of a Computer Programming firm. Mr. Chandna is also a scholar of Arabic Language. He is the Chairman of the Academic Sub-Committee. At times he takes classes in Arabic at the Society’s premises as well as at outside centre.
Mr. Saeed Al Rehman Kaleemi
Mr. Saeed Al Rehman Kaleemi is a businessman dealing in petroleum products. He is well connected and is a life member of the Society.
Mr. Abdul Majeed
Mr. Abdul Majeed was born in the year 1933 at Gurjanwala. He acquired degrees in science, textiles and business management from educational and technical institutions in Pakistan and also from the prestigious London Business School in England and the Harvard Business School in the United States. Mr. Abdul Majeed is one of the major industrialists of businessmen in Pakistan. He is the Chairman of Messrs. National Foods Limited and also holds key positions in other major corporations and business houses. Besides he is associated with a number of educational, charitable, and social and welfare organizations.
Mr. M. Abdullah Feroz
Mr. Abdullah Feroz is a very well known person in the pharmaceutical industry. His field of businesses extends beyond the boundaries of the country. Mr. Feroz is a known philanthropist and actively takes part in many educational and health projects.
Dr. Prof. Noor Ahmed Shahtaz
Dr. Prof. Noor Ahmed Shahtaz is a very well known scholar of Arabic. He has joined the Society as a member of the Managing Committee and has been nominated on many sub-committees.
