Society for the Promotion of Arabic was established by a group of
modern educated Pakistanis, who strongly felt that cause of laying
the foundations of an Islamic Society in pakistan was suffering by
default as the nation had failed to capture the oppotunity by ignoring
hte improtance of both Islam within its national education policy
and planning.
Upto 1973 no serious effort had been noticed at the Government level
even after 26 years of the country's independence except for a volume
of lip service in favour of Islam and the virtues of Islamic good
governance and the Islamic way of life.
A number of Governments had come into power and gone but the cause
of Islam and Arabic hasd remained out of their agenda of priorities.
It was in this back groung that Society for the Promotion of Arabic
was established in February 1973, to fill an important woid in our
antional commitment towards building a modern democratic Isamic Society
in Pakistan besed on injunctions of Holy Qur'an and SUnnah, and providing
and Isamic identity.
Alongside our efforts to teach Arabic in our resolute endeavour to
promote the learning of Arabic in Pakistan, the Society held ' Pakistan
Arabic Language Conference' ar Karachi in October 1985 which was attended
by more than 90 delegates from all over the country and over a hundred
observers representing private Arabic Educational institutions as
well as official agencies engaged in the teaching of Arabic.
In pursuance of the recommendations of this Conference, the Society
organized the first ever 'International Arabic Language Conference'
in 1988. Twenty eight delegates from Pakistan representing official
and private institutions; and thirty eight from the following countries
attended this conference; Algeria, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives,
Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, United Arab Emirates
and the United Kingdom.
Thirty seven papers were presented at the Conference by eminent scholars.
In cognizance of the dedicated efforts of the Society. high tributes
were paid within the country as well as in foreing countries for its
pioneering effort ro promote Arabic in Non-Arabic Speaking Muslim
Countries. |
